Tooth decay is not inevitable!

Tooth decay has lost ground, but it persists despite the major progress made in the area of prevention. Far from being inevitable, it could simply be eradicated. The example of Sweden leaves us to ponder.

Within pathologies dental caries are an particuličre because the disease they are a gateway to almost all the subsequent deterioration of the braces. And in delŕ teeth as such, the mouth is described as the French Dental Association, "the crossroads of all dangers" it is also an essential anatomical region to food, the expression and seduction. This part of the body is linked to the well-being both physically and mentally.

Zero decay
Some progress has been made in understanding the mechanisms and thus to the prevention of cavities. Today, this disease is a rare chronic infections that could be eradicated.

1 - See a dentist every year, even if one does not feel the dental problem.

2 - Adopt a balanced diet in refusing any form of snacks. Indeed, the bacteria produce acids mouth. During a meal, they are not harmful, but in the snacks, as they eat the sugars that we consume, they are likely to destroy the hard tissue of teeth with acid demineralisation.

3 - A regular and thorough brushing: ideally after each meal and at least twice a day. We are not all equal in the face of cavities. Some people are more vulnerable because of a lower quality of their tooth enamel and the presence of crevices (paths). Hence the importance of a thorough and frequent brushing to remove plaque and bacteria it contains.

A successful experience in Sweden

Prevention side, Sweden has succeeded her. As part of the country with a rate of caries is greater, it is now one of those where the disease is the lowest. Why? In 1979, a prevention program has been established for children from birth until the age of 19. It included support for prophylactic cleaning professionals and application of fluoride varnish at regular intervals depending on the risk of all. In the end, the caries incidence was reduced by 90% in all age groups. Children 12 years and adolescents 19 years have seen their faces dental caries decreased by 6 to 0.3 and 23 to 2. With political and economic, it is possible to effectively combat this disease.

Large

For fifteen years, caries has lost ground in the developed world. At least two factors have contributed:

1 - the growing consumption of fluoride toothpaste and almost systematic addition of fluoride in salt or water;

2 - the increase in living standards.

Results in France: the average number of decayed teeth in children 12 years rose from 4.2 to 1.3 in 1987.
However, these figures hide wide disparities. Part of the French population, often destitute, gučre has benefited from such progress. According to the latest statistics, nearly a third of children 12 years of combined 80% of caries treatment. Up to now, some initiatives undertaken by the government aimed to convince the poor to seek treatment, have won only mixed success. This is the case of the balance sheet oral free for youth established in 1997. It was draining to the system of care that 5% of young people living in families where there is never going to the dentist.

And pending the establishment of effective programs, pause to consider the dentist as a practitioner of after, but as an expert on.
