Tooth decay at the root of many diseases

Tooth decay among the diseases most prevalent in Algeria, said the specialist during a training dental surgery organized by the Faculty of Medicine of Algiers.




Professor Abdelkader AIFA, the dental department at the University of Algiers say that tooth decay can cause serious diseases such as cardiovascular disease, renal, skin and eye. Prevention from childhood to protect against these diseases and reduced spending on health are very important. A visit to the dentist at least once a year and call parents to support early childhood (from the appearance of teeth), under certain complications that can cause birth defects is recommended. He regretted that patients can consult when the oral disease reached an advanced stage, namely infection, duplication, which, he said, does not facilitate the task of the specialist physician. Professor Salim Hafiz, chief maxilofacial Hospital Mustapha Bacha, said that private dentists had contributed, after independence, the creation of this specialty in Algeria then only 10 students in this specialty. Professor Hafiz said that the Algerian universities are trying, with the help of foreign specialists, to seek the scientific progress and encourage continuing education. "We try to respond to the concerns of society, through patient care and training of students," he added. For his part, Dr. Moussa Arada, rector of the Faculty of Medicine of Algiers, stressed that the faculty has scheduled for some time, days of training on three specialties, including dentistry. Besides the day on the pharmacy, scheduled for May 18, an international symposium on the ethics of the medical profession will be held from 11 to 12 June, he added. Apart from training trainers and qualification of senior lecturers, the objective of these training days, according to Professor Arada, offering students the opportunity to know the scientific progress in these three specialties.
