Definition:
The dental implant is an artificial root embedded in the jaw bone. It is used to replace the root of a tooth damaged or torn and support a prosthesis. The dental implant is the intermediary between the prosthesis and the jaw bone, it transmits forces chew bone support and acts as a shock.


Types and forms of dental implants:
There are 2 types of dental implants, those fixed on the jaw (juxta-bone) and those in the jaw (endo-skeletal) are by far the most used. Forms can also usually cylindrical shape of a cone, disk, blade ... some may correspond to a specific need. Their sizes vary between 3 and 5 mm and length between 10 and 15mm. This variety correspondent in the diversity of jaws and the clinical cases encountered.


Resistance of the dental implant:
A dental implant must withstand the forces of mastication of about 10 to 35Kg/cm ² that can be exercised in different directions, dental implants should not deteriorate over time or through contact with saliva, gum or other items that can be found in the mouth. Metals such as lead, mercury or gold used for other dental care can cause an electrical current in the saliva.

It goes far beyond human longevity.
