The pattern of consumption of dental care of our affiliates between 1999 and 2004 révčle (also use too moderate dental especially among young people), a dichotomy provincial consumer dental care and a paradox: the greater the contact preventive dental, the greater the protective care.
This has the appearance of paradox because the study highlights the fact that light it was mostly to preventive oral examinations when already of dental problems.
Another finding of importance: if we use the criterion of at least 5 contacts dental preventive during the period without conservative treatment, we can conclude that the member has an intact or dental care. But celon this criterion, there are "inequality" in front tooth decay, for example, from Hainault, and the province of Antwerp, while the density of dental practices and fluoride in water can be explanatory variables.
Overall, the study révčle that the Belgians (in any case with regard to our affiliates) will consult the little dentist: one in five or one in three if we take into account the orthodontic care. Many young people do not consult a dentist for orthodontic care. But all studies show that the probability of having healthy teeth depends very much careful during childhood to the quality of primary teeth.
Key findings
The pattern of consumption of dental care was analyzed for a group of young people born
between 1979 and 1999 and for a group of adults born between 1946 and 1969. The analysis, which focuses on
managed care during the period from 1 July 1999 to 30 June 2004, aims to meet the
following questions: How many people do not go to the dentist? What are the
types of dental care, which were repaid? How many people have teeth
intact or neat? The review preventive oral allows it to reduce consumption
conservative treatment? Are there differences by gender, age, place of the (provincial)
and the right to the increased?
One in three had not taken dental care during the period. Among the
young people surveyed, there are several differences:
- Girls are more often visited a dentist than boys;
- The beneficiaries of the increased (BIM) are less often viewed as a dentist
non-beneficiaries (not BIM). In addition, the BIM have consumed more than conservative treatment
and often have less teeth intact or treated as non BIM, who have benefited
much of orthodontic treatment;
- The provinces of Antwerp, East Flanders and Liège are fewer non-consumers.
Hainault
Antwerp and East Flanders are also the largest percentage of
youth in care or teeth intact. Hainaut clearly not the most consumers
and fewer young people in care or teeth intact.
Nearly 36% of adults have not visited the dentist during the period analyzed.
Among adults surveyed, we find the following differences:
- Women are more likely to have consulted a dentist and have consumed more than conservative treatment
as men;
- BIM adults have visited a dentist as much as BIM but not consumed
more conservative treatment and prothčses;
- As among young people, the provinces of Antwerp, East Flanders and Liège are
not the least of consumers. Hainaut, has the largest percentage of non
consumers.
Among young adults, it was found that the more a person consumes
preventive care, it consumes more conservative treatment.
